There has been a lot going on recently in the media and blogs etc about issues that are a little .....out in my head.
Lets start with no.1 Homosexuality. There is a furore going on in the papers quoting some git saying something regarding sex education to keep homosexuality (caught from the west btw) at bay. I do not know if I am homophobic or not. I had a good friend in school and he turned out to be, and I accepted it for what it was. If it was my own son then I would have great difficulty. There I said it. I would still love him, but be sure that I would have immense feelings of guilt in case it was all my fault......(maybe if he hadn't been circumcised, maybe if I had sent him to another, tougher school, maybe this, maybe that). If it is innate or not I really do not know. I think it is but then society just accelerates all that by condoning it. I am confused but I do not think I am a bigot.
No.2 Racism. Most of my closest friends are of mixed race or another race to me. I saw all the fuss on TV about Big Brother and Shilpa Poppadom. Crikey, can't people take a joke? We all know that Shilpa is dead snobby and can be quite bitchy, but hey, she is a Bollywood A lister, kudos to her. Most Brits (as Americans are too) are quite raw when it comes to understanding other cultures. They like to enjoy a good curry, but have no idea that they themselves invented the chicken tikka masala .
Anyway, back to BB, the lady that everyone as been fussing all about (Jane Goody) does not strike me as being particularly racist but more of common filth which needs to be ignored.
I heard a guy on the radio this morning and he said it all in a nutshell for me. We are many colours with varying levels of education and wealth, but we all have something the same, and that is the colour of the blood running through our veins. (oops, animals have red blood too.)
No.3 Eating Pussy. I do not desire a Siamese Stir Fry or a Sealpoint Taco, probably because I am not accustomed to the idea. I am not sure why I have difficulty stomaching the thought, most likely it is because society says it is cruel to slaughter our pets. In my opinion cows and chickens are whole lot smarter and affectionate than cats and dogs. It is all about conditioning people. After a few more 7 days articles we will not be so shocked, then a few more and we will start wondering about the recipes the labourers are trying out, and finally, who knows, we may all be queuing outside the slaughter house with our moggies tucked neatly under our arms.
